An email filter is a software app that runs on a POP3/IMAP mail server and monitors all inbound email messages so as to hinder any undesired ones from reaching a given mailbox. A few instances of such email messages would be: offers for pills or money, fake banking notifications or email attachments that contain malicious code sent with the intention of infecting your PC. Spam filters typically ‘scan’ the content of an email message and when they detect certain keywords or other dubious content, they either erase the message or forward it to the Spam/Junk folder instead of the Inbox folder. Certain hosting companies mix their own spam filters with up-to-the-minute databases from spam-tracing organizations, so as to ensure higher levels of protection for their customers. Such databases contain patterns, email server IP addresses and other information about spam messages recently reported by these organizations.

Spam Filters in Shared Hosting

The security of any mailbox that you set up under a shared hosting account with our company is ensured by the powerful SpamAssassin filter that we employ. You can activate it through the Email Manager section of your Hepsia hosting Control Panel and it comes with 5 security levels based on the spam score it gives to each and every message depending on different criteria, such as the frequency of given words and phrases, the sender, and so on. If you keep getting spam email messages, you can always raise the level or if you’re afraid that you may skip a legitimate email, you can combine the automated filter with a custom one and redirect all email messages from a specific sender to some other email account. In case you decide that you no longer need a spam filter for a specific mailbox, you can deactivate it with just several clicks of the mouse.

Spam Filters in Semi-dedicated Servers

In case you use one of our Linux semi-dedicated plans, you won’t have to worry about junk messages clogging your mailboxes all the time, as you can resort to the popular SpamAssassin anti-spam filter that we offer with every semi-dedicated server account. Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel will allow you to activate the filter for any mailbox with a few mouse clicks and you can select any of the five safety levels – from very low to very high. The level can be altered at any time if, for instance, legitimate email messages get filtered, or if junk email messages go through and reach your Inbox folder. To be on the safe side, you can choose all filtered messages to be redirected to a special mailbox such as spam@your-domain.com and not to be erased. Thus, you can examine them every now and then to make certain that you haven’t missed an authentic message.
