Secure Sockets Layer, or SSL, is a protocol used to encrypt the info exchanged between a web server and its users. The practical application of using an SSL is to preserve the information which site visitors submit on your Internet site - a login page, a payment page if you run an online store, and so forth. Any information they enter in any box on the site will be submitted safely to the server, so their login or payment details will be protected from being accessed by unauthorized individuals. Normally, an SSL certificate needs a dedicated IP address to be installed, meaning that the overall cost for your web presence will be bigger. While this might not be an issue for a larger business, it might matter for a non-profit organization or a small web store that does not generate big income if additional money should be spent. That is the reason why we have taken advantage of an extension referred to as Server Name Indication (SNI) and we've made it possible to use a shared server IP address to install an SSL certificate.

Shared SSL IP in Shared Hosting

Since we offer SSL certificates with our shared hosting solutions, you can very easily secure your website and use a shared IP address with just a few mouse clicks. The option shall be available during the order process, hence if you have a dedicated IP address, you could use it, but if you don't have one and you do not want to pay for such a service, you can use the shared IP, that has been set up particularly for SSLs. The certificate shall work in the exact same way as if it had a dedicated IP address and the sole difference will be that if anyone attempts to open the IP address as a URL, they won't see your website. Since our system has an auto-configuration option, the SSL shall be set up automatically as soon as it is issued, so you'll not have to do anything on your end after you approve it. That way, you can have a risk-free and reliable Internet site without having to spend more money for that.

Shared SSL IP in Semi-dedicated Servers

Any SSL certificate can be used with our specifically configured shared IPs, thus if you have a semi-dedicated server account, you could use this option with simply several mouse clicks when you install a certificate which you obtain through us or through some other retailer. For the SSLs that we offer you could also take advantage of an extra function and have our system set everything up for you. This way the minute you approve the SSL, the shared IP address will be set for the particular domain name or subdomain and the certificate shall be installed without any action needed on your end, and thus any data that site visitors submit on your Internet site will be protected. The SSL shall function in the same exact way no matter if it is set on a shared or a dedicated IP and the one thing that's different between the two setups is that typing the shared IP address as a URL inside a browser won't open your website.
